Award-Winning Actor To Be Honored At SF International LGBTQ+ Film Festival

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Award-winning actor and playwright Colman Domingo will be honored at the 50th San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival.

Domingo, who has starred in Sing Sing, Euphoria and Rustin, will receive the Variety Creative Conscience Award during the event on Friday, June 19, according to festival organizers.

The 56-year-old will also take part in a Q&A session with Jazz Tangcay, senior artisans editor at Variety.

"I am extremely honored to receive this award on its 50th anniversary," Domingo said. "And Frameline….you look so good at 50."

Domingo, whose career accolades include an Emmy and two Academy Awards, says he believes he found "a part of myself as I was becoming a man in the Bay Area."

He lived in San Francisco from 1991 to 2001. During that time, Domingo says, he visited the festival each year to see "films that told our stories."

"The shorts program was my favorite," Colman said. "Ambitious, thought-provoking, thrilling and passionate."

Domingo's most current work includes the new Michael Jackson biopic, "Michael."

"Colman Domingo's extraordinary talent and creativity have established him as one of the most compelling voices in entertainment today," Dea Lawrence, co-president and publisher of Variety, said. "His dynamic performances, combined with his bold endeavors as a writer, director, and producer, showcase the impact of art infused with purpose. He exemplifies what a true 'Creative Conscience' looks like."

Frameline50, as this year's event is called, will take place from June 17 to 27, featuring three major screenings: "Lady Champagne," "Centerpiece," and "Pride Kickoff."

The festival began in 1977 with the mission of empowering the world through queer cinema.

"San Francisco doesn't just watch films, we make them, break them open, and remake them in our own image," Allegra Madsen, Frameline’s executive director, said. "These three films are San Francisco stories about the artists, the activists, the drag queens, the dykes and the queers who built this city's culture and dared to put it on screen."
