SAN FRANCISCO, CA — San Francisco's next congressional representative could be State Senator Scott Wiener or Supervisor Connie Chan after they ran away with a majority of the votes in the 11th District election on Tuesday.

All votes have been counted for the race, San Francisco officials said. Preliminary results show Wiener was the frontrunner in the race, leading with 41.26% of the votes, while Chan won 28.62%.

Wiener and Chan, both Democrats, will face off in the general election in November.

In third place was Saikat Chakrabarti, a political advisor who worked briefly with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, with 14.84% of the vote.

Representative Nancy Pelosi announced her retirement in 2025, giving up a seat she's held for nearly 40 years. Pelosi endorsed Chan earlier this month.

Chan's career in San Francisco politics spans two decades, moving up in the ranks before becoming a supervisor. Today, she represents several neighborhoods in San Francisco, including the Inner Richmond, Lincoln Park and the Presidio Terrace.

Wiener, an openly gay man, has long championed LGBTQIA+ civil rights, including authoring SB 219 to establish an LGBTQ Seniors Bill of Rights to protect LGBTQ seniors living in long-term care facilities.

In 2019, he passed a new law to expand access to HIV prevention medication, the first of its kind in the country. He's been endorsed by the California Democratic Party.
