SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The beautiful game returns to the global stage Thursday when Mexico and South Africa kick off the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Estadio Azteca, more than 2,000 miles from San Francisco.

With rocket-high ticket prices and the tournament being split between two countries, this may be the most expensive World Cup in history.

Don't fret; there are dozens of free fan celebrations around every corner of the Bay. Here's where to find them.

SPARK Social SF will broadcast every single match up this summer, including the kickoff match on Thursday.

"Whether you’re sneaking away from work for a midday match, meeting friends after hours, or spending the weekend supporting your home country, SPARK Social SF is the place to eat, drink, and celebrate every goal all tournament long," officials with the community gathering space said.

The San Jose Earthquakes will host its owner soccer celebration from June 11 to July 19 at the San Pedro Square Market.

Other Watch Parties:

This year's World Cup will be the first time the tournament features 48 teams. Spain and France are the favorites to win the tournament, followed by England, Brazil and the last tournament winner, Argentina.

The Bay Area is set to host six of 104 games. Games in the Bay Area will be played at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.

This year's World Cup is predicted to generate a record-breaking $10.9 to $11 billion.
