Theft Suspect Killed, 2 SFPD Officers Injured After Being Struck By Car During Chase: Police

One officer was pinned beneath the vehicle and later rescued by firefighters, police said.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A theft suspect was killed and two San Francisco police officers were injured Friday morning after all three were struck by a vehicle during a foot chase in the city's Nob Hill neighborhood, police said.

Around 7:36 a.m., officers responded to Trader Joe's at California and Hyde streets after receiving a report of an active theft.

Police said officers struggled with the suspected shoplifter before he ran from the store and into the street.

Two officers chased the suspect on foot when all three were struck by a vehicle, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

Police said one officer was pinned beneath the vehicle. Firefighters rescued the officer and all three were taken to a local trauma center.

The suspect later died from his injuries, police said.

The two officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and remained hospitalized Friday.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, police said.
