SAN FRANCISCO, CA — With San Francisco International Airport seeing a significant increase in delays this year, these are the best and worst times to schedule a flight, according to a report by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Flight delays at San Francisco International Airport have been exacerbated this year by runway construction and federal orders restricting landings, according to an analysis of flights between April 1 and June 10 by the Chronicle.

"The FAA recently increased the separation between aircraft landing at SFO," airport officials said earlier this year. "This, in combination with ongoing runway closures for construction work, is expected to cause delays of at least 30 minutes on approximately 30% of arriving flights."

The analysis by the Chronicle shows that these issues have brought the average delay to around 20 minutes, compared with 5 minutes during the same period last year, according to the report.

Early-morning flights had the least delays. Flights at 5 and 7 a.m. saw 10% and 13%, respectively, according to the report.

Meanwhile, more than half of all flights between 1 and 9 p.m. during this time period were delayed, according to the report.
