Suspect Randomly Stabs Multiple Women Following Bay Area Pride Celebrations: DA

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A woman has been charged in connection with a random stabbing attack that left three people injured as crowds left Pride festivities in San Francisco on Sunday, prosecutors said.

Nyasha Gipson, 22, was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, along with the allegations that she personally inflicted great bodily injury on two victims during the attack, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office said.

It's unclear what spurred the attack. Prosecutors say crowds were leaving Pride festivities held at UN Plaza on Sunday when Gipson, "without warning or provocation," stabbed one woman in the leg.

Another woman tried shielding the victim and was stabbed in the torso, prosecutors said, while a third woman, meanwhile, was nicked by the knife during the attack.

Gipson tried to run away after the attack, but officers quickly tracked her down and took her into custody in connection with the stabbings.

Gipson was set to appear in court on Wednesday. It's unclear whether she has entered a plea. Prosecutors, meanwhile, said they would ask the court to keep her jailed, arguing that she poses a risk to the public.

The stabbing was one of several crimes highlighted by prosecutors during Pride celebrations. A 19-year-old man was charged with assault with a firearm and several other crimes after being accused of pistol-whipping and shooting another person in a crowded San Francisco area on Saturday afternoon.
