SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man suspected of burglarizing a San Francisco home while its residents slept inside was arrested last week, police said.
Police say the "hot prowl" burglary suspect entered the home in the city's Northern District overnight on Friday, July 3 and stole several items, including a car.
Officers alerted the San Francisco Police Department's Real Time Investigation Center, which later received an alert notifying them that the stolen car had passed near an automated license plate reader somewhere in the city, police said.
Using a drone and surveillance units, officers located the suspect in an alley in the Southern District, according to the San Francisco Police Department.
When he got out of the car, officers quickly moved in and took him into custody on suspicion of first-degree burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of stolen property, authorities said.
Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Dylan Ward. No city of residence was available. He was wearing clothes stolen during the burglary when officers found him, police said.
"Officers recovered all stolen property, including the vehicle, and returned it to the rightful owners," police said.
