SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Eighteen people have been charged in connection with two illegal block parties that left a pair of officers injured in San Francisco last month, prosecutors said.
The 18 people, who were not identified by prosecutors in a press release Wednesday, were charged with unlawful assembly, failure to disperse at an unlawful assembly and resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer,
The San Francisco District Attorney's Office says a group of people, including a DJ, gathered the night of June 27 in the 100 block of Kissling Street for an unsanctioned and unpermitted block party.
Officers arrived just before 11 p.m. and told the crowd to leave, and they did, prosecutors said, but only the area.
Rather than stop the party, a group of about 200 people reconvened in the area of Howard and Washburn streets, prosecutors said.
Police soon began arresting people who failed to leave the area, prosecutors said.
To prevent officers from entering the party, people put up makeshift barricades, prosecutors said. Other people spray-painted walls, including anti-police graffiti, prosecturos said
Two officers were injured during the incident, prosecutors said. It's unclear what kind of injuries they suffered, but prosecutors said they were not life-threatening.
The case remains under investigation. Prosecutors asked that anyone with more information contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444.
