SAN FRANCISCO, CA — DoorDash announced it has received its FAA certification, meaning your next order could soon be delivered by a drone.
It's unclear exactly when the in-house drone program, DoorDash Air, will launch.
The company, which is based in San Francisco, did not provide a timeline, but said it would have news later this year on the aircraft and how the program will fit into its delivery network.
"We want drone delivery to work for any merchant, anywhere," Head of DoorDash Air Harrison Shih said in a statement Wednesday. "We're building the full stack to make that possible from the ground infrastructure to the drone itself, and the handoff systems that make it work together seamlessly."

The company said that obtaining Part 135 air carrier certification was a "significant regulatory and technical milestone" years in the making.
DoorDash is the eighth drone operator to have earned this certification, according to the company, which said it went through a "rigorous" process.
"Operators must pass a robust five-stage evaluation process verifying aircraft airworthiness, maintenance programs, and safety procedures," the company said in a statement. "The bar for safety and operational reliability is where it should be for operating over communities."
