Man Convicted Of Strangling, Attempting to Rape Muni Bus Passenger: DA

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A 26-year-old man was found guilty of attempted rape and a litany of other crimes in connection with the sexual assault of a passenger aboard a Muni bus in San Francisco, prosecutors announced on Tuesday.

San Francisco prosecutors say Dasan Warsaialem Brown violently attacked the victim after the rest of the passengers got off the 29 Muni around 11:40 p.m. on April 26, 2025.

Brown strangled and tried to rape the victim, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.

The bus driver saw what happened and called authorities, who took Brown into custody, prosecutors said.

The victim, meanwhile, was left with several injuries, including loss of hair, prosecutors said.

"The victim fought hard despite the odds and deserved justice in this case," Assistant District Attorney Tanisha Gooch said in a press release on Tuesday. "I want to thank the jury for their careful consideration."

Brown was convicted of assault with intent to commit a felony, attempted rape by force or violence or by threat of bodily injury, attempted sexual penetration by foreign object, force and violence, sexual battery by restraint, simple assault, assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, felony false imprisonment and two counts of misdemeanor vandalism, prosecutors said.

He remains jailed and is due back in court on Sept. 3 for sentencing, authorities said.
