Man Convicted In Hammer Attack On Woman At SF Apartment: DA

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man who attacked a woman with a hammer at her San Francisco apartment while wearing a mask was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, prosecutors said.

A jury found Christian Plummer, 29, guilty of assault with a deadly weapon, not a firearm, battery and brandishing a weapon, not a firearm, in connection with the attack on Feb. 28, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office said on Friday.

It's unclear if Plummer and the woman knew each other before the incident. Prosecutors say Plummer went to the victim's apartment in the 500 block of Post Street around 12:11 p.m. while wearing a black balaclava mask and wielding a hammer.

When the woman answered the door, Plummer tried to enter the apartment, prosecutors said.

The woman blocked Plummer from entering, but the 29-year-old refused to leave and continued trying to push through, at one point swinging the hammer towards her, prosecutors said.

Surveillance footage captured the attack, prosecutors said, including when Plummer briefly grabbed the woman's neck, punched her in the chest and kicked down the door to another apartment, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors did not say when Plummer was taken into custody or charged, but added that "this verdict reflects that violent conduct is not tolerated in San Francisco."
