Federal prosecutors say company officials ordered technicians to discard potentially contaminated samples and substitute clean soil, undermining critical safety data for the surrounding community and the Navy.
2. 2 NorCal Spots Named Among Greatest Mexican Restaurants In U.S. By NYT (patch.com) — San Francisco diners can take pride in Californios being named one of the greatest Mexican restaurants in the U.S., and the only Mexican restaurant worldwide with three Michelin stars. The New York Times list also spotlights Barbacoa Mejía in Richmond, celebrating Northern California's role in a broader Mexican culinary renaissance.
3. Video appears to show San Francisco train driver asleep before 2 empty trains crash (abcnews.com) — A recent Muni collision near 47th Avenue and Wawona Street, just north of the San Francisco Zoo, appears to show a train operator asleep before crashing into another empty train. SFMTA says no one was hurt but blames operator fatigue, echoing a similar past incident and prompting an ongoing investigation into safety and operator alertness on the city's rail system.
4. Fairfield's Chantel Brooks missing more than a month: 500 hours spent looking for her (ktvu.com) — A Fairfield woman who worked at a hotel in San Francisco's Tenderloin has been missing since mid-July, and police now suspect foul play after signs of a struggle in her apartment. Investigators and family have spent hundreds of hours searching across the Bay Area, including Oakland, and are urging anyone with information to contact Fairfield police immediately.
5. California Seeks Dismissal of Suit Alleging Antisemitism in State's Schools (mynewsla.com) — San Francisco public schools are among several districts cited in a statewide lawsuit alleging unchecked antisemitism and inadequate protection for Jewish students. California's Attorney General now argues the case should be dismissed, saying a new state law, AB 715, already provides the monitoring, training, and anti-discrimination safeguards the plaintiffs are seeking.
