1. Man Who Posed As 49ers Player Busted For Elaborate Dating Scam: Feds (patch.com) — San Francisco residents are being warned about a romance and investment scam in which a man allegedly posed as a wealthy 49ers player, with an accomplice acting as his fake financial adviser, to defraud women of about $1.3 million. Federal prosecutors say the scheme used social media, bogus bank documents, and staged calls, and the FBI is now seeking additional potential victims with ties to the Bay Area.
2. 2026 San Francisco Greek Festival (Sept. 18-20) (funcheap.com) — San Francisco food lovers can mark their calendars for the 75th Annual Greek Food Festival, returning to the Mission District's Annunciation Cathedral September 18–20 with free admission. Expect three days of homemade Greek dishes, desserts, coffee, folk dancing, live music, and vendors, all easily reached by transit from 245 Valencia Street.
3. Lurie proposes naming portion of Embarcadero Park after former Mayor Art Agnos (ktvu.com) — San Franciscans could soon see part of a revamped Embarcadero Park named Art Agnos Plaza, honoring the former mayor who removed the Embarcadero Freeway and reconnected downtown with the waterfront. Mayor Daniel Lurie's proposal, backed by major private fundraising, would merge Embarcadero Plaza and Sue Bierman Park into a five-acre waterfront destination, with construction expected to start in late 2026 pending commission approval.
4. Pokémon is booming as World Championships open in S.F. So are card thefts (fresnobee.com) — Tens of thousands of Pokémon fans are packing Moscone Center and Chase Center this weekend for the World Championships, giving San Francisco hotels, restaurants, and game shops a major boost. But the boom in high-value trading cards is also fueling thefts, with recent break-ins at local and Bay Area card stores prompting police attention.
5. First-pitch homer, 2 other long balls send Diamondbacks past Giants (statenews.net) — San Francisco Giants fans saw the home team give up three home runs and fall 10–6 to the Arizona Diamondbacks, despite long balls from Bryce Eldridge and Christian Koss. The loss, the Giants' ninth in 11 meetings with Arizona this season, helped the Diamondbacks creep closer to a National League wild-card spot.
