📰 News we're reading

1. Man Who Targeted White House UFC Event Also Planned To Attack Bay Area Data Centers: Feds (patch.com) — Federal prosecutors say a Rocklin man helped plan a drone attack on a White House UFC event while also discussing plots against AI data centers in the Bay Area, including sites outside San Francisco. Court records describe encrypted group chats mapping out targets at Northern California tech facilities and internet infrastructure, before an Ohio tip and FBI raids unraveled the alleged conspiracy and led to federal charges.

2. S.F.'s Community Gardens program, an oasis of calm, marks 20 years of growth (sfchronicle.com) — San Francisco's Community Gardens program just marked 20 years, with the Howard Langton Community Garden in SoMa earning a $1.5 million city grant for major upgrades. Neighbors describe the tucked-away space as a much-needed green refuge, where long waitlists, monthly workdays, and shared plots are building community as much as they grow food.

3. 5 hospitalized, a dozen displaced in Mission District apartment fire (missionlocal.org) — A weekend apartment fire at 1825 Mission St. in San Francisco sent five people to local hospitals and displaced a dozen residents, many of them seniors. Firefighters, the Red Cross, and the city's Human Services Agency coordinated rescues, temporary hotel stays, and shelter on a Muni bus while the one-alarm blaze was contained.

4. 500 photos with Pikachu: San Francisco wraps up first-ever Pokémon convention (missionlocal.org) — San Francisco just finished hosting Pokémon XP, the franchise's first-ever global fan convention, drawing nearly 50,000 players and families to Moscone Center and Chase Center. Locals and visitors packed competitions, retro and new game stations, cosplay meetups, and massive merch lines, turning downtown into a three-day celebration of all things Pokémon.
