Wild Parrot Freed After Getting Head Stuck Between Glass At SF Building

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A wild parrot was rescued Saturday after it got trapped at a building under construction in San Francisco.

It's unclear what caused the bird to get trapped. Fire crews arrived and found it stuck between two pieces of glass on a third-floor balcony, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

"SFFD went to the roof and lowered a ladder down to the balcony," authorities said on Monday. "When on the balcony, they carefully slid the bird up to free it."

The bird was wrapped in a towel and handed over to a San Francisco Animal Care & Control Officer, who assessed it, authorities said.

A photo published by the San Francisco Fire Department shows a firefighter climbing onto the third-floor balcony to retrieve the bird. The green parrot is seen wrapped in a white towel with its head peeking out.

The bird's wings, legs and neck appeared to be in good shape, authorities said, prompting the animal control officer to release it.
