Labor Day weekend beach goers urged to be cautious amid dangerous conditions (ktvu.com) β If you're heading to San Francisco beaches this Labor Day weekend, officials warn that powerful rip currents and unpredictable sneaker waves are making the shoreline especially dangerous through Monday. Stay well back from the water, never turn your back on the ocean, and follow safety tips from the National Weather Service and San Francisco Fire Department to avoid being swept in unexpectedly.

3. Don't be alarmed if you see smoke on Angel Island next week. It's a controlled burn (sfchronicle.com) β San Francisco residents may see smoke over the Bay this week as up to 260 acres on Angel Island are intentionally burned to reduce wildfire fuel and improve habitat. The state park will stay open, but several popular trails and roads, including routes to Mount Livermore, could close for up to three days, so check conditions before you head over.

Exclusive: Inside the fevered fight to free an East Bay man from ICE detention (sfchronicle.com) β An East Bay restaurant manager's weeklong detention by ICE repeatedly brought him through downtown San Francisco offices and ended with his late-night return to San Francisco International Airport. His case, involving a visa overstay and urgent medical needs, drew rapid-response advocates and a federal judge's order for release, highlighting how similar arrests could affect Bay Area families.
