Lowrider Spectacle Brings Droves To San Francisco's Mission District

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Hundreds of customized vintage lowriders hopped around San Francisco's Mission District on Saturday during an annual event that also celebrates Chicano culture.

The San Francisco Lowrider Council hosted the Lowrider Parade and "King of the Street" with city officials, the Mission Merchants Association, and the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District.

"King of the Streets" is an annual car show featuring lowriders and a "hopping" competition that brings thousands of car enthusiasts to the Bay Area. A few years ago, the council decided it wanted to add a parade to the already popular event.

The parade debuted last year and was televised by CBS, marking a significant milestone in the lowrider and Latino community, organizers said at the time.
