BAY AREA — At least 11 Bay Area Starbucks stores will close this weekend, Patch has independently confirmed. The sudden closures come as part of a wave of closures of 250 stores across North America the company announced Tuesday. In a letter to employees, Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams said they are closing locations "where we do not believe we can consistently deliver the experience we want for customers and partners or where we don't see a path to acceptable financial performance."
The closures represent approximately 1% of Starbucks' more than 18,000 North America locations.
Starbucks did not release a full list, but many were able to determine which were closing based on the listing of hours on the company's store locator. In the Bay Area, 11 stores confirmed that they will close before Sunday. Two more locations – one at 1187 San Carlos Avenue in San Carlos and the other at 3700 San Pablo Avenue in Hercules – did not confirm the closure, but the online store locator does not list hours beyond Saturday.
The following locations have confirmed that they will close before Sunday:
• 1701 Willow Pass Road, Concord
• 1663 N. California St., Walnut Creek
• 3547 Mount Diablo Blvd., Lafayette
• 176 N. Gateway Blvd., South San Francisco
• 119 N. Rollins Road, Millbrae
• 1135 Industrial Road, San Carlos
• 1037 El Monte Ave., Mountain View
• 1205 The Alameda, San Jose
• 795 First St., Gilroy
• 138 Calistoga Road, Santa Rosa
• 2240 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa
Most stores are operating regular business hours Saturday, then permanently closing. The location at 3547 Mt. Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette will close at 7 p.m. Friday. Many workers said that they were only informed Thursday that the branch would be closing.
Employees at many of the closing branches face an uncertain future. An employee at one branch confirmed to Patch that they will be transferred, but many others said they will find out Sunday whether or not they have jobs at other locations.
A total of 64 locations in California are expected to close based on location hours, which comes to roughly 2.1% of the state's 3,058 locations. Outside the Bay Area, the likely closures include:
In September 2025, Starbucks announced that it was closing 627 stores in North America and Europe. That wave included 43 locations all over the Bay Area, according to KTVU. In his letter, Grams said the company is aiming for faster service, and "warmer, more welcoming coffeehouses."
Despite the closures, Grams said that the company still plans to open more locations. "We are actively developing a strong pipeline of new coffeehouses and remain committed to growth in North America," he said.
