Notable SF Bar Owner Arrested After Baseball Bat Attack Over Parking Space: Report

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The owner of a well-known San Francisco bar was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after attacking someone over a parking space standoff, the San Francisco Standard reported Sunday.

The owner of Mad Dog in the Fog on Haight Street and Kezar Pub, Cyril Hackett, 63, was arrested early Saturday morning in connection with the attack, according to the report.

An employee at Further, a clothing store in the Upper Haight area, was waiting for a parking space when Hackett tried to take it, prompting an argument captured on cellphone footage, according to the report.

A standoff ensued between the employee and Hackett, according to the report, and neither ended up with the parking space.

Hours after the incident, Hackett barged Further with a baseball bat and attacked the employee, according to the report.

Records show Hackett was booked on suspicion of second-degree robbery and assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm.

Hackett's bars are popular in the San Francisco community, especially Mad Dog in the Fog, a longtime English pub known for giving Grammy-winning band Train one of its first paid music gigs.

Train named its latest studio album after the bar.
