Scooter Battery Fire Forces Evacuation Of San Francisco Apartments

The cause was determined to be a scooter with a lithium-ion battery that caught fire on the third story, officials said.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A six-story apartment complex in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood was evacuated Saturday after a lithium-ion battery caught fire.

San Francisco firefighters responded to the fire in the 1000 block of Mission Street and began evacuating residents at about noon.

The cause was determined to be a scooter with a lithium-ion battery that caught fire on the third story, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

The fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes and did not spread beyond the third floor.

No injuries were reported.
