SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Five people were arrested on suspicion of stealing thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise from an REI store in San Francisco, police said.
The suspects each stole from the popular recreational equipment store over the last several months, police said.
The San Francisco Police Department identified them as Henry Le, 28; Benjamin Buckingham, 36; Piero Alioto, 44; Antonio Stewart, 56; and Daniel De La Rosa, 37.
Le stole nearly $6,000 worth of Yeti merchandise from the store between July 29 and Aug. 31, police said.
Buckingham is accused of stealing about $3,900 worth of duffel bags from the store between Aug. 4 and Aug. 31.
Alioto and Stewart stole $2,400 worth of items from the store between June 15 and Sept. 8, police said.
De La Rosa, meanwhile, stole $6,700 worth of items from the store between July 1 and Sept. 30, police said.
"These arrests follow SFPD's expanded efforts to combat retail theft across the city with increased enforcement, training, and closer partnerships with retailers, leading to more arrests and a decrease in theft cases this year," police said. "In the past year, SFPD officers have recovered over $418,000 in stolen merchandise."
