"San Francisco is known for blending old-world charm with cutting-edge innovation," the magazine who published the awards said.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — It's official: San Francisco is the second-best large city in the country, at least according to the Condé Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Award.

Condé Nast Traveler is a lifestyle magazine that has been in publication since 1987 and has become a "global authority on luxury travel," according to its website.

Each year, it publishes its Readers' Choice Awards survey, where hundreds of thousands of voters share their opinions on a variety of subjects, including hotels, cities and the best food around the world.

This year's awards saw more than 750,000 voters share their thoughts, including on which were the best large cities in the United States.

"San Francisco is known for blending old-world charm with cutting-edge innovation and has gained worldwide appeal through its distinctive character, diverse communities, luxurious hotels and world-class cuisine," according to Condé Nast Traveler. "The city is compact and highly walkable, with iconic landmarks, intriguing neighborhoods, renowned arts and culture, and sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay."

Condé Nast suggests San Francisco is also a must-see tourist destination that, with its fog, rolling hills and cable cars, creates a "romantic, European feel that sets it apart from other cities."

Neighboring Oakland also made the list, with Condé Nast describing the city as "a microcosm of Black life in America."

"While much has changed over the last few years, Oakland is still a Black city that embraces its history and community with open arms," the magazine said. "That theme is on display thanks to Black business owners who passed down storefronts to children and grandchildren, and a style of dance and music."
