SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A DUI offender was charged with murder after intentionally leaving a pedestrian for dead following a crash in San Francisco earlier this month, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors say David Maldonado Sanabria, 29, was driving under the influence on Oct. 1, when he struck a pedestrian walking in the area of Moscow Street and France Avenue with his truck.
The pedestrian fell backwards, prosecutors said. Meanwhile, Maldonado Sanabria slowed his truck, looked down at the injured pedestrian and then sped off, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.
Maldonado Sanabria was found three miles away from the crash and taken into custody in connection with the crash, the San Francisco Police Department said Monday.
The pedestrian, meanwhile, died on Oct. 18 from their injuries, police said.
On Tuesday, San Francisco prosecutors charged the 29-year-old with murder, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury with a blood alcohol level of .08% or higher and leaving the scene of a crash.
Maldonado Sanabria is due in court for arraignment on Tuesday.
Prosecutors say they will ask a judge to order him kept in jail without bail pending trial, saying he poses a risk to the public. Maldonado Sanabria, police previously said, was convicted of multiple DUIs in the past.
