Today's riddle: What happened to the pregnant cat that ate yarn? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Housing planned for former San Jose school campus (sanjosespotlight.com) — A former South San Jose elementary school site on Cozy Drive is set to become 80 new homes, including 11 reserved for low‑income buyers, if the City Council approves it on Sept. 15. The $26.6 million sale will help stabilize Oak Grove School District's finances, while neighbors and planners debate density, traffic, park space and the city's broader push to meet state housing targets.
2. San Jose adds medical personnel to EDM festival after medical emergencies (nbcbayarea.com) — San Jose officials have boosted on-site medical staffing at Discovery Meadow after 14 people were hospitalized during Friday's Chainsmokers show, many for suspected alcohol or drug issues. As thousands return for more EDM performances, fire and police say extra ambulances and advanced life support units are in place to better handle any emergencies.
3. They earn $300,000 and pay $1,800 in rent in the Bay Area. Why they can stay in affordable housing (timesheraldonline.com) — East San Jose's Sunset Square Apartments, an affordable complex, includes dozens of households now earning above income limits, with two paying $1,800 for one‑bedrooms despite making over $300,000. A recent San Jose audit and a new state bill are pushing officials and nonprofit operators to reconsider how long over‑income tenants can stay so scarce subsidized units better serve lower‑income residents.
4. Heat advisory in place for Northern California for Wednesday and Thursday (sacbee.com) — A heat advisory will be in effect for Santa Clara Valley, including San Jose, from Wednesday morning through Thursday night, with temperatures running 10 to 20 degrees above normal. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, use air conditioning if possible, check on vulnerable neighbors, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
