• Coroner identifies man who died in Hwy. 101 crash that also killed unborn baby (sanluisobispo.com) — Authorities have identified 55-year-old Grover Beach resident Cezar Roy as the passenger killed in last week's wrong-way crash on Highway 101's Cuesta Grade, which also cost a pregnant driver her unborn child. The San Luis Obispo County Coroner's Office and CHP say the suspected wrong-way driver remains hospitalized and under arrest on DUI allegations, and investigators are seeking witnesses.
• Swimming Coming to Santa Margarita Lake (ca.gov) — Swimming and other direct-contact water activities will be allowed at Santa Margarita Lake in San Luis Obispo County starting January 1, 2027, under a new state law. The City of San Luis Obispo will keep treating the reservoir's drinking water with microfiltration and disinfection, while the county tracks water quality and recreational impacts through 2032.
• Map: Plaskett Fire evacuation now bordering on San Luis Obispo County (mercurynews.com) — The Plaskett Fire on the Big Sur coast has grown rapidly and pushed its evacuation zone to the edge of San Luis Obispo County, now ranking among California's largest fires this year. Fire managers report more than 15,000 acres burned, with nearby Timber Fire activity continuing to the north, and urge residents to monitor official evacuation maps for any changes.
