1. City of SLO Fire Department Will Host the 25th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony (slochamber.org) — San Luis Obispo residents are invited to a 25th anniversary 9/11 remembrance ceremony at Fire Station 1 on Friday, September 11, 2026, starting at 8:30 a.m. Expect a flyover, bell ceremony, speeches, musical tributes, and temporary road closures and detours around Santa Barbara Avenue during the event.
2. SLO County Seeks Public Input on Parks and Recreation Master Plan (keyt.com) — San Luis Obispo County is asking residents to review and comment on a new Parks and Recreation Master Plan that will guide everything from dog parks and trails to campgrounds and event spaces. A public comment period runs through September 30, with an online workshop on September 9 where locals can learn about the draft and ask questions after registering.
3. NAACP San Luis Obispo Invites All to Attend Its Freedom Fund Signature Fundraiser on September 26 (slochamber.org) — Local residents are invited to a NAACP San Luis Obispo County Freedom Fund fundraiser on September 26 at the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum, celebrating Pullman porters and Soul Train-era culture. For $75, guests get museum tours, music, food, and themed activities while supporting civil rights work and honoring rail history tied to the Cuesta Pullman Dining Car.
4. Major-injury crash closes busy street near Cal Poly (sanluisobispo.com) — A serious crash on Foothill Boulevard near Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo left at least one person with major injuries and shut down the eastbound lanes between California Boulevard and Casa Street for more than two hours Wednesday afternoon. Police say a motorcycle and car collided, and investigators from the Severe Collision Investigative Detail are examining the cause.
5. Update: Brava Fire in San Luis Obispo County remains 100% contained by Tuesday morning (sacbee.com) — A small wildfire dubbed the Brava Fire burned 9.5 acres near Costa Brava in Pismo Beach but is now 100% contained, according to Cal Fire's San Luis Obispo Unit. Firefighters have ringed the blaze with control lines, meaning it's no longer expected to spread, though some interior burning may continue while crews work toward full control.
