1. SLO Rep Announces a Series of Great News About the New Theatre (slochamber.org) — San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre's new downtown venue at Monterey and Nipomo streets is nearly ready to break ground, with construction expected to start in October after city reviews wrap up. A new $1.5 million gift boosts the capital campaign, and updated plans will preserve the prominent oak tree on-site, creating a shaded plaza for the expanded performance spaces.
2. San Luis Obispo opens ballot drop boxes early for November election (mustangnews.net) — If you vote in San Luis Obispo County, ballot drop boxes open today, Oct. 1, and your vote-by-mail packet should arrive earlier than usual. Three drop boxes are in San Luis Obispo, including one in the UU, and in-person voting and election services ramp up through October to make casting your ballot easier and faster.
3. Emergency crews respond to Hwy. 1 rollover near California Men's Colony (sanluisobispo.com) — A rollover crash on Highway 1 near the California Men's Colony sent at least one person to the hospital and scattered debris across the roadway between San Luis Obispo and Cuesta College. Traffic slowed as a downed sign blocked the No. 2 lane while emergency crews and San Luis Ambulance responded, so drivers in the area should expect lingering delays and use extra caution.
4. Cal Poly unveils new staff, faculty housing development in SLO. Take a look (sanluisobispo.com) — Cal Poly has opened Vista Meadows, a 34-home neighborhood at Grand and Slack designed to give faculty and staff a rare path to homeownership in San Luis Obispo's brutal housing market. Eligible employees can buy below median prices, with units around 1,600–2,100 square feet, offering a short walk to campus and relief from sky-high local rents and home prices.
5. Man fatally shoots woman after argument in San Luis Obispo County, officials say (yourcentralvalley.com) — A woman from San Miguel was fatally shot in her home in San Luis Obispo County after an argument, and deputies say the suspect fled in a pickup before being arrested the next morning in Wasco. Local residents may notice increased law enforcement presence as investigators continue their work, and authorities have publicly identified both the victim and the alleged shooter.
