FAIRFAX, CA — The town has approved the demolition of four buildings at 95 Broadway after repeated trespassing raised safety concerns for police officers and people entering the property.
Officials called the site an "attractive nuisance." The town issued the demolition permit Wednesday, requiring safety and environmental precautions during the work.
The approval allows the property owner to remove existing buildings and other structures but does not authorize new construction. Officials said they have received no additional building permit applications for the site.
To manage traffic during demolition, Fairfax also issued an encroachment permit allowing temporary controls as heavy equipment enters and leaves the property. The measures aim to protect pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.
Before work begins, crews must secure the site, safely dispose of hazardous materials and disconnect or cap utilities.
Environmental requirements include stormwater runoff controls and creek protections. The work will not involve excavation, soil removal or significant pavement removal, and the property's rock walls will remain intact.
Fairfax has not announced when demolition will begin or how long the work will take.
