SAN BRUNO, CA — A 60-year-old Bay Area man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of stealing dozens of packages while impersonating an Amazon driver, police said.

The man, whose identity was not publicly released by police, was wearing an Amazon vest when he took off around 10:10 p.m. with a package from a home in the 1000 block of Admiral Court in San Bruno, authorities said.

"This wasn’t your typical driver dropping off packages — this guy was running a reverse delivery route," the San Bruno Police Department said in a statement Tuesday.

A witness noticed "something was a little off" and reported the theft, police said.

With the help of an Automated License Plate Reader, officers were able to track the car used in the crimes to Daly City, according to the San Bruno Police Department.

There, officers pulled the suspect over and found 30 packages belonging to San Bruno residents in his car, police said. Officers later found the man had stolen even more packages from the area over the last few weeks, police said.

The man, who police identified only as a San Francisco resident with a history of thefts, was taken into custody in connection with the alleged crimes.

"Just because someone looks like a delivery driver — vest and all — doesn’t mean your package is in good hands," police said. "If something feels off, trust your instincts and give us a call."
