SAN CARLOS, CA — The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office will conduct a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint Friday in San Carlos, officials said.
The checkpoint will be held from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. along El Camino Real.
Officials said checkpoint locations are selected based on data showing where alcohol- and drug-related crashes occur most frequently.
The Sheriff's Office reminded residents that impairment is not limited to alcohol and can also result from prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, cannabis products and other substances.
Drivers arrested on suspicion of a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver's license, officials said.
