Officials said checkpoint locations are selected based on data showing where alcohol- and drug-related crashes occur most frequently.

The Sheriff's Office reminded residents that impairment is not limited to alcohol and can also result from prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, cannabis products and other substances.

Drivers arrested on suspicion of a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver's license, officials said.
