Approximately 100,000 Ballots Need to Be Counted in San Mateo County, Elections Office Says
But here are the preliminary results for several major Peninsula races.

Daly City Vice Mayor David Canepa has been elected to the District 5 seat on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, defeating Councilmember Michael Guingona, according to complete unofficial results from Tuesday's election.
Canepa received 64 percent of the vote compared to 36 percent for Guingona and will replace Supervisor Adrienne Tissier, who is being termed out after 12 years in office.
District 5 in San Mateo County includes Daly City, Brisbane, Colma, parts of San Bruno and South San Francisco, as well as unincorporated areas including Broadmoor.

The race was the first to be held with voters only from the district. In November 2012, nearly 60 percent of county voters approved a measure to change countywide supervisorial elections to a by-district system.
In six contested city council races around San Mateo County, planning commissioner Glenn Sylvester and personnel board commissioner Juslyn Manalo were elected to the Daly City City Council in preliminary results.

In Pacifica, City Council incumbent Mary Ann Nihart may have lost her re-election bid, coming in third behind planning commissioner Sue Vaterlaus and parks, beach and recreation commissioner Deirdre Martin, according to the unofficial results. However results are close, with just a 71 vote difference.
In Menlo Park, incumbents Ray Mueller and Catherine Carlton were most likely re-elected, as were incumbents Lisa Yarborough-Gauthier and Carlos Romero in East Palo Alto.
Business executive Adam Eisen and Coastside Fire Protection District board member Harvey Rarback appear to have won the two open City Council seats in Half Moon Bay.
One incumbent in Colma, Rae Gonzalez, appears to have held onto her City Council seat while a second incumbent, Diana Colvin, appears to have narrowly lost her seat to law enforcement officer John Goodwin, according to the unofficial results.
There are still about 100,000 ballots to be counted in San Mateo County, which may change the outcomes of some of these races. County officials tell Patch they have several vote-by-mail ballots that weren't received until Tuesday.
As of 3 a.m. Wednesday, some 205,855 cast ballots had been tallied, which is 52 perecent of 396,341 registered voters, election officials say.
