Caltrain Is Free To Ride New Year's Eve 2018
The agency said it will also be increasing service for holiday revelers.

In an effort to help curb drunk driving, Caltrain and SamTrans announced Tuesday that they'll be offering free service to riders this New Year's Eve into New Year's Day.
According to Caltrain officials, riders can travel free of charge beginning at 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31. The deal is good through 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1.
"Caltrain will provide extra capacity for northbound trains (435, 437 & 439) headed to San Francisco during the early evening and will operate additional southbound trains after the end of the San Francisco fireworks show," the agency said in a news release. "Post-firework trains will make all local weekend stops from San Francisco to San Jose. Departure times will vary depending on crowd size and will depart when full, with the final train departing San Francisco at 2 a.m."

The agency reminded travelers that no open alcohol containers are allowed on trains after 9 p.m. and that anyone viewed as "disruptive" will be asked to detrain.
Come Monday, Caltrain will will operate its standard Sunday schedule, the agency said.

"Shuttle service to and from Tamien station and San Jose Diridon station will also be provided," officials said. "SamTrans will also be running on its standard Sunday schedule."
