Council's OK Puts Prospective Shared Fire Station Closer to Fruition

The City Council voted yes to moving forward with the possibility of sharing a fire stations with Redwood City and the County.

The San Carlos City Council gave the green light to proceed with studying the possibility of sharing the three hillside fire stations earlier this week, said assistant city manager Brian Moura.

Moura said each station currently receives between one and two calls per day or three-to-five calls per day together; the same level of actvity as at the main San Carlos Fire Station on Laurel Street.

"The cost of the three stations together is $7.6 million per year," said Moura in an email to San Carlos Patch, "resulting in a chance to save up to $6 million per year, depending on how they are staffed in the future."
