Although most mountain lions will try to avoid a confrontation with humans, county officials want to remind residents to not approach the animal if they see one, especially if it is feeding or with offspring, according to the OES.

Additionally, residents should avoid hiking or jogging around dawn and dusk, when mountain lions are most active, OES officials said.

When encountering a mountain lion, residents should not run, and instead face the animal, make noise and appear to look bigger by waving arms and throwing arms or other objects, according to county officials.
