Don't Tell Us That You're Innocent, Because it Insults Our Intelligence.

In the Godfather, Michael Corleone asked his sister's husband "Carlo" whether he had betrayed Santino Corleone before Santino was gunned down on the New Jersey Causeway. Carlo tried to avoid answering Michael's question but Michael insisted saying:

"Don't tell me that you're innocent. Because it insults my intelligence and it makes me very angry. Now, who approached you first? Barzini or Tattaglia?"

Carlo admitted "it was Barzini" and we all know what happened after that.

By now, most of us know that the San Carlos City Staff, San Carlos Planning Commission, and the San Carlos City Council approved an Environmental Impact Report for the San Carlos Transit Village saying that the largest housing project in the history of San Carlos "would have no significant impact". City Staff was responsible for "administering" this report and came to this conclusion based on the testimony of numerous paid "experts". Let's take the issue of traffic. The traffic expert admitted that there would be 667 new cars in this project, lots of retail traffic coming in and out all day, and regular, steady traffic of heavy trucks using the 8 new driveways onto El Camino right in the center of town. He also admitted: "traffic impacts through the center of San Carlos could not be mitigated". We then learned how the current traffic grid in San Carlos is going to change to an series of one-way streets: San Carlos Avenue will become a one-way street going West, Elm will become a one way street going North, and Holly (West of El Camino) will become a one way street going West. Yet, all of this would have no impact, which really means that the developer will not have to pay for the impacts they are causing, instead leaving the burden on San Carlos taxpayers to fix the problems being created.

You can pass an EIR pretending there is no impact, but don't tell us that you're innocent, because it insults our intelligence. And San Carlans are smarter than you think...
