Fish With Hepatitis A May Have Been Served At San Carlos Restaurant: USDA

Eateries in San Francisco, San Rafael, San Carlos, Mission Viejo, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Huntington Beach and more served it.

Tuna is a popular item in home kitchens and on restaurant menus, but some being sold in California could be infected with the hepatitis A virus. The Hilo Fish company initiated a recall of some of its tuna earlier this month, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which is urging consumers to avoid the items.

The affected products came from the Sustainable Seafood Company, located in Vietnam, and from the Santa Cruz Seafood, which is based on the Philippines. If you think you may have ingested any of the tuna, the FDA urges you to consult your doctor.

Here is the list of affected restaurants and distribution company in California, as released by the FDA:

Hepatitis A Concern: To All Our Patrons, We were notified by our seafood distributor weeks ago about a possible Hepatitis A outbreak linked to frozen saku cubes that came in through their warehouse and was distributed to some accounts including us.

Immediately any of those items were removed from our orders or facility and we switched brands and manufacturers immediately to ensure our guests safety and the quality of the products we serve.

We have talked to the health department and have also been cleared by them in regards to those products and as another precaution to ensure our guests safety.

There are no known cases resulting directly from us and we continue to provide and serve the highest quality of seafood to our patrons. For any immediate issues please email or contact me at bhwills33@gmail.com

Symptoms of hepatitis A include stomach pain, jaundice, dark urine, pale stool, and fatigue, according to the FDA. Symptoms may not appear for a period of 15 to 50 days after eating the contaminated tuna.
