Reminder: Cops Working for Tips Tonight at Morty's
San Carlos sheriff's personnel will be taking dinner orders at Morty's Thursday to raise money for Special Olympics. The "Tip a Cop" event will take place from 5-9 p.m. at Morty's on Laurel Street.
This Thursday from 5-9 p.m., San Carlos Bureau Captain Greg Rothaus and other uniformed Sheriff’s Office personnel will be taking orders at Morty’s Restaurant, Bar & Grill in San Carlos and hoping for big tips as they raise funds for the Special Olympics Northern California.
The event, better known as “Tip-a-Cop,” partners local law enforcement agencies with local restaurants to create a fun, family-oriented fundraising effort benefiting the Special Olympics Northern California and their year-round sports training and athletic competitions.
Morty’s Restaurant “Tip-a-Cop” dinner service, scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 24, is one of approximately eight such annual events on the Peninsula. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office has a long-standing relationship with the Special Olympics which is nurtured largely through the leadership of Sergeant Todd Finato.

Sergeant Finato, Belmont native and Carlmont High School graduate, has earned countless awards for his 14 years of dedication to the Special Olympics Northern California , including their 2012 Ambassador Award and their 2003 Gold Medal Award for his dedication to Special Olympics athletes. He also heads up the Annual San Mateo County Special Olympics Torch Run, and the “Bagging for Bucks” fundraiser in partnership with Bianchini’s Markets.
“The Tip-a-Cop” events are a great example of how powerful community, business, and law-enforcement partnerships can be,” says Sgt. Finato, who was recently promoted form his duties as a motorcycle patrol Sergeant to heading up the Sheriff’s Office Community Policing Unit, which serves the entire county.

“This event will feature some of our higher ranking personnel, and it will be fun to see them take orders rather than give them! It’s all for a great cause and we’re grateful for new partnership with Morty’s Restaurant. We hope the community will come enjoy a great meal .”
Morty’s will be serving their full dinner menu at the “Tip-a-Cop” event Thursday from 5-9 p.m. Uniformed personnel will accompany wait staff. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Activities League will also be on hand to distribute child fingerprinting kits and offer special surprises.
