GOING ON NOW: CITY LISTS 54 POSITIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS
City officials list many accomplishments over the past year!
The city's major officials gathered for the annual retreat to discuss goals, accomplishments, and weaknesses at the annual strategic retreat.
So what's gone on positively in San Carlos this past year?
"Successful transition to the Sheriff's office," said Mayor Omar Ahmad, kicking off the session as he sat next to Council member Matt Grocott who voted against the decision to contract police with the County. "Gigantic successful downtown events," said clerk Christine Boland, referring to the massive Halloween Goblin Walk and the Night of Holiday Lights.

"Finally got turf!" said Robert Weil, Director of Public Works. "We have several new memorandums of understanding, labor contracts," said interim City manager Jeff Maltbie. "We reduced sewer overflows from 70-30," added Weil, to light applause.
The positive nature of these announcements depends on who you ask. Administrative Director Rebecca Mendenhall confirmed that PERS has yet to come back to the city with an accurate number for unfunded liabilities, a number she estimated back in October to be around $5 million after the outsourcing of police.

How the city will pay those unfunded liabilities - listed in a previous article here on Patch by Maltbie as a challenge for the city - is still unknown.
Today's retreat was supposed to be the setting for when the city revealed its plan to pay those liabilities, said Mendenhall last October, but now that the day has finally arrived, the city still has no answer.
The list of accomplishments continued as officials shouted them out at random:
"We launched new Recology garbage service," said Brian Moura. "We launched Zoom in on Zoning initiative," mentioned Al Savay.
"We topped 2500 fans on Facebook," said Moura.
The list went on as the city filled whiteboards with achievements.
