How Much Should Caltrain Charge Riders? Leave Your Input In New Fare Study

Phase One of the study is designed to take a holistic approach to understanding Caltrain's fare structure.

From Caltrain: Caltrain is looking to survey its riders as part of its first comprehensive Fare Study since 2001. The study aims to provide updated data and analysis to inform and support the development of fare policy at Caltrain.

Riders interested in participating can go to www.caltrain.com/farestudy and submit their email at the bottom of the page so they can get a link to the survey.

Phase One of the study is designed to take a holistic approach to understanding Caltrain’s fare structure. The study will look to identify opportunities to maximize revenue, enhance ridership and safeguard social and geographic equity. Key tasks include studying the current fare structure and existing ridership, analyzing industry best practices and conducting quantitative modeling, in addition to surveying riders. Phase One is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2017, and will also outline the scope of Phase Two.

The Board last voted on fare changes at its August meeting. Those changes will be implemented on October 1, and will continue to be rolled out through January 1, 2019.
