Jewish Family Service Awarded Funding from County of San Diego to Enhance New Counseling and Children's Waiting Rooms

Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) has received a $12,166 grant from the County of San Diego’s District 4 Neighborhood Reinvestment Program. The grant will purchase furniture for the counseling lobby and children’s waiting area of JFS’s new Joan & Irwin Jacobs Campus, which is currently under construction.

Scheduled to open in December 2015, the Joan & Irwin Jacobs Campus will improve clients’ experience by using evidence-based design and best practices to create a healthy, therapeutic environment. The campus will include new client- and community-centered features, such as a client-choice food pantry, a state-of-the-art industrial kitchen for preparing nutritious meals, an outdoor play space and edible garden, and open-space architecture to foster staff and volunteer collaboration.

“The furniture we will purchase through the County of San Diego’s grant will contribute significantly to the positive experience of San Diegans who turn to us to improve their lives,” said JFS CEO Michael Hopkins. “Studies have shown comfortable, welcoming lobbies and children’s waiting areas are important components of a successful counseling experience. In addition to its many other programs and services, JFS provides counseling to individuals and families with mood disorders, in need of refugee resettlement assistance, or struggling with stressful, traumatic life events such as domestic violence, breast cancer, or loss of a loved one. These services are available to all San Diegans in need, regardless of religion, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, ability, gender identity/expression, or sexual orientation.
