Local Artists with Disabilities Showcase Work
The exhibit is free and open to the public in Redwood City from Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm through Oct. 21.

WHAT: Artwork by 49 artists with disabilities residing in San Mateo County will be on display at the 2014 Art Showcase now until October 21st as part of San Mateo County’s celebration of Disabilities Awareness Month. The Art Showcase, co- sponsored by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and the Commission on Disabilities, provides the opportunity for local artists with disabilities to exhibit their extraordinary artwork and talent to their community.
At an artists’ reception the evening of October 21, artists will be on hand to discuss their work as local residents bid on it in a silent auction benefiting the artists. San Mateo County Supervisor Carole Groom and liaison to the Commission on Disabilities will also be in attendance.

WHEN: The exhibit is free and open to the public from Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm through October 21. The reception and silent auction are October 21st from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Tickets to the reception and auction are $10 for adults and $5 for children 5-12 in advance at artshowcase2014.brownpapertickets.com or $12 at the door.

BACKGROUND: This is the 11th year for this event, which gives artists a chance to share their work with their community. Artists like Nancy Chisholm, who lives in South San Francisco and enjoys painting and drawing images from nature. Her painting, Chinese Tigers, is about good luck, and will be one of the many great works of art on display.
“This is such an important event to help these amazing artists share their work with our community,” said Supervisor Carole Groom. “The fact that the event has been going strong for 11 years is a testament to our community’s support of these truly talented artists.”
