San Carlos American loses a tough one, 4-2, to Palo Alto American

San Carlos pitcher Ryan Higgins threw the first pitch of the day Saturday morning as his American Little League all-star teammates played in the first round against Palo Alto American at Highlands Park.

Liam Sharek blasted a two-run double that tied the game but the San Carlos American Little League all-star team fell to Palo Alto American, 4-2, in extra innings Saturday in a first round game of the District 52 all-star tournament at Highlands Park.

Palo Alto scored a run in each of the first two innings but San Carlos starter Ryan Higgins settled down and pitched another 3 1-3 innings of shutout ball before reaching the 85-pitch limit, allowing San Carlos to tie it.

Palo Alto eventually won with two runs in the top of the eighth.

"It was a great game," San Carlos coach Ron Brooks said. "I guess if you had to lose, that was the way to do it. Ryan settled down and really pitched well."

San Carlos American will play again on Tuesday at 5 p.m., also at Highlands Park. They will meet the winner of Sunday's game between Pacifica American and San Mateo National.
