San Carlos Gateways To Get a Makeover
The city's entrances will be decorated with art from local artists.

The gateways of San Carlos will soon have a new artistic display to greet passers-by.
Local artists Richard Leitzinger and Mario Chiodo received first place from the seven panel judge who reviewed all of the submissions for their proposal of various sculptures depicting the city’s vast history.
On display at Monday night’s council meeting was a large sculpture of a Native American with indigenous animals. The duo won $1,250 for their first-place entry.

“It was a fun process, anything that has to do with creativity,” said Leitzinger. Our jewel in all of this is San Carlos Ave. San Carlos has a lot of people to be proud of in its history.”
Planning manager Deborah Nelson said residents had asked to better mark and aesthetically approve the gateways some months ago. The city asked for submittals from local artists.

Artist Joaquin Pedrin was awarded second place and Alice Kao was ranked third.
Nelson said further discussion from th council and public input will be taken into consideration before final decisions are made to have these designs crafted and made permanent gateway signs.
