San Carlos Teen Fighting for Life After Hit-and-Run in SoCal

Newport Beach Police are looking for the driver of a light colored Mercedes who struck a teenage cyclist Tuesday night and fled the scene.

The cyclist, a 14-year-old girl from San Carlos, suffered life-threatening injuries, according to Newport Beach Police Department Spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella.

Police got the call at about 9:22 p.m. Tuesday about a hit and run collision involving a vehicle and a young rider on a beach-cruiser type bicycle. At the time of the collision, a group of bicyclists was travelling eastbound on E. Bay Avenue, and the car was travelling westbound on E. Bay Avenue. The collision occurred near the intersection of E. Bay Avenue and Anade Avenue.

The bicyclist is fighting for her life at local trauma center, according to authorities.

The car involved in the crash is described as a silver or white Mercedes. The driver fled the area without stopping to render aid to the girl.
