The Sheriff's Office offers ten tips on how to cut down on vehicular accidents during the holidays.

Each holiday season, the number of auto accidents increases due to a larger number of pedestrians and bicyclists throughout the city, and a higher volume of drivers.
The San Carlos bureau of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office recently released a list of safety tips to avoid traffic accidents:
1) The most important thing is to be mindful of all the traffic.

2) Be in a constant defensive driving mode so that you can be ready to react to any sudden starts or stops of cars.
3) Following too closely is another common factor contributing to collisions. Always leave plenty of stopping distance between your car and the car in front of you.

4) Avoid drinking and driving during this holiday season or any season for that matter.
5) Always have a designated driver ready to take over the driving when you have been drinking.
6) Be aware that other drivers may be impaired.
7) Don’t Text & Drive
8) Always use your hands free telephone device.
9) Excessive speed is one of the most common primary collision factors. Allow ample time for travel to your destination to avoid rushing and closely adhere to speed limits.
10) Accidents also increase during inclement weather. Be particularly careful when winter weather is upon us.
