Police say the tot was riding a toy vehicle when they were hit by a sedan.

MENLO PARK, CA — A toddler is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in a Menlo Park driveway over the weekend, the police department reported Monday. The child, who is 20-months-old, was on a toy car when they were hit.

Menlo Park police say the tragic incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Willow Road.

"A 26 year old, male relative of the child, was backing his gray Ford Fusion on the driveway, did not see and struck the child," Menlo Park police said in a news release. "This collision occurred 30 feet away from the roadway on private property."

"Officers went out to the residence and hospital to conduct their investigation," police said. "The driver is cooperating with the investigation; drugs and alcohol are not a factor in the incident."
