Young Peninsula Artists' Work To Be Displayed At Local Museum Of Art

Congresswoman Jackie Speier will host a reception to announce the winner of her district's Congressional Art Competition.

SAN MATEO, CA – Congresswoman Jackie Speier (CA-14) will announce the winner of her district’s Congressional Art Competition at a reception for all participating students, their parents and teachers on Monday, May 15 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Peninsula Museum of Art. She will also recognize the second and third place winners and honorable mentions.

“In an era when the arts are under constant attack, I am particularly thrilled to have the art students see their amazing works professionally displayed in a museum with working artists,” Speier said. “This is the first time the Peninsula Museum of Art has offered its space to honor these up-and-coming artists. It’s a profound statement that art is essential to our communities.”

Ruth Waters, Founder and Executive Director of the Peninsula Museum of Art, will welcome the students and introduce Congresswoman Speier before the winners are announced. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982, and more than 650,000 high school students have participated nationwide.
