SAN CLEMENTE, CA — A section of the San Clemente Beach Trail reopened Friday after more than a year of repairs tied to landslide damage, restoring a popular shoreline route and shoring up the coastal rail corridor, the San Clemente Times reported.
The Orange County Transportation Authority and other officials held a ribbon-cutting for a nearly 1,400-foot barrier and a rebuilt pedestrian path near Mariposa Point, the news outlet said.
"We're very excited to be here today to open the Beach Trail back to the public," OCTA CEO Darrell E. Johnson told the San Clemente Times, calling the project an investment in the rail line's future.
Officials said the work is part of broader erosion-control and beach-replenishment efforts along the corridor, the San Clemente Times said.
Residents and visitors for now can again walk the continuous coastal trail with ocean views.
