SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Tuesday is the day: It’s the last day to turn your ballots in or vote in person for the gubernatorial recall election that could unseat first-term Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Ballots include 46 candidates who are vying for Newsom's job, including 24 Republicans, nine Democrats and 13 others.

Polls and drop-off locations opened at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

“Voters who still have their vote-by-mail ballot can drop it off at any polling location, vote center, or ballot drop box,” said California Secretary of State Shirley Weber. “If you’re voting in person, you have a right to cast your ballot as long as you are in line by 8 p.m.”

If you are not registered to vote, there’s still time. Same-day voter registration is available at each county election office, polling place and vote center across the state. To do so, you just need to fill out a voter registration form at the site.

Democrats stood behind Newsom throughout the intensifying recall effort. On Monday, President Joe Biden showed his support in person for Newsom by flying into the Golden State.
