Boat Crew Rescues Entangled Seal Near San Onofre
A fishing crew aboard a Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching vessel rescued a Guadalupe fur seal Friday.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — A threatened Guadalupe fur seal received a helping hand from fishermen aboard a Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching boat Friday, the OC Register reported.
The seal was found entangled in green netting not far from San Onofre. When fishing boat Capt. Chad Steffan spotted the animal in the water, he and two deckhands wasted no time in rushing to help.
“Being out there as long as I have, you sort of know when an animal is struggling,” Steffen told the OC Register. “I saw green netting around its face and head. He was clearly in distress.”

The green netting was carefully cut from the seal's face before being returned to the water in less than two minutes.
Dana Wharf COO Donna Kalez said the Pacific Marine Mammal Center confirmed that the animal was a threatened Guadalupe fur seal.
